It's Never Too Late to Hustle

My retirement side gig was by accident. My husband wanted a black Santa hat to wear at Christmas. I designed and made one for him, and he wore it everywhere starting the day after Thanksgiving. He had so many people stopping him, asking where he got his hat, that I opened an Etsy shop just for them. Each year, from Thanksgiving until the week before Christmas, I sold those hats, netting $3,000 to $5,000 for those three weeks. Not bad for my first side hustle.

When my company began implementing layoffs and consolidating job responsibilities, I knew it was just a matter of time. I started listing all my various job duties and researching how these could be leveraged as side hustles. Last year, the cuts came. I quickly realized that at my age, finding another job would not be easy. My list came in handy, and I'm working on freelance consulting projects today. You really are never too old!

If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.
